Myofascial Release Therapy

What is fascia and Myofascial Release?

Fascia is a thin connective tissue that runs all over our body in the form of an uninterrupted web that supports the bones, organs, nerves, blood vessels and muscles. Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that focuses on relaxing, lengthening and realigning your fascia. This helps to decrease the fascial restriction and pain and enhance and restore movement. These fascial restrictions are created due to repetitive stress and strain, sports injuries, falls, trauma, motor vehicle accidents, surgical procedures, etc. Due to the above, the fascia becomes tight and uncomfortable, and our body learns to compensate for this injury creating imbalances and pain.

Technique for Myofascial Release:

The practitioner will perform a detailed assessment movement and a hands-on assessment. Normally a fascia that is healthy is pliable and elastic unlike an unhealthy fascia that feels rigid and stiff. These restrictions are not usually in the area of your pain or discomfort, but these restrictions could be the primary source of your pain. The technique involves sustained manual pressure over these restricted areas until a full release is felt by the practitioner. In addition to the release, the practitioner will also give you some self-release techniques to ensure the carry over effects of treatment.

Massage Therapy

Compassionate care lives here. Our Massage Therapy Service is here for you to help in return to healthy movement with reduced pain and aid your return to balance. We approach each person with unique tools and there is no routine, nor a sequence as every person presents differently, on different days. Our therapists are trained here for therapeutic deep tissue, to relaxation focus. Therapeutic massage uses general Swedish massage techniques as well as Deep tissue techniques. Passive stretching is also with the focus on increasing range of motion, and reducing pain perception.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage may loosen up tight muscles caused by daily activities such as sitting at the computer or exercising. It can be very helpful for people who hold a lot of tension and are looking for relaxation focus while spending more time and focus on the tighter spots.

During a Swedish massage various techniques are used that include kneading, long strokes, deep circular movements, and passive joint movements. The intention is to offer relaxation, stimulate nerve endings, and increase blood flow and lymph drainage. A traditional Swedish massage can focus on a specific area, or the whole body.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage targets the inner layers of your muscles, tendons, and fascia, it uses the same techniques as Swedish Massage, but more specificity and depth of pressure. To reach the deep structures, treatment begins in broader areas and work down to specificity, applying more depth while using special techniques with the fingers, fists, and maybe even elbows to reach and stretch that deep tissue.

It’s important to communicate if the level of pressure is too much, or not enough for it to be modified for your needs. Please make sure to communicate with your massage therapist before and during the massage.
